Roger Bakale, Ph.D.

Dr. Bakale has over 38 years of Pharmaceutical R&D experience and is currently Senior Vice President, CMC Head, Clinical and Commercial manufacturing, and member of the Senior Leadership Team at Kura Oncology.  He previously held leadership roles at Bristol-Myers Squibb (formerly Celgene), Receptos Inc. (Celgene), Teva Global R&D, Sepracor Inc. (Sunovion), and Warner-Lambert Parke Davis.

He directs scientific teams engaged in chemical innovation, product development, associated budgets, and facility management. He provides strategic leadership in drug development activities from candidate nomination through clinical development and commercial regulatory approval. He has been responsible for leading the CMC organizations associated with the successful technology transfers of commercial API and drug product launches for seven new patient therapies, including Zeposia™, Treanda™, Synribo™, Xopenex HCl™, Xopenex HFA™, Lunesta™, Bravana™, Soltara™ and also significantly contributing to the technical approval packages of Paclitaxel™, and Fosinopril Sodium®.  

Dr. Bakale holds a BSc in Chemistry and Biology from Hope College and a Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry from Wayne State University. He has co-authored 92 patents and publications, including 35 issued patents and 74 patent applications across 30 distinct patent families. He has presented over 95 abstracts and scientific presentations and is actively involved in numerous professional societies and advisory boards.
