As SVP, Product Development, Rao is responsible for global development and delivery of processes, products, and analytical methodologies for the company’s clinical pipeline of synthetic & biologics assets from discovery transition through registration and commercial transfer.
Prior to returning to Product Development as its leader in 2022, Rao served as Vice President, Integrated Product Strategy-Global Supply Chain, responsible for end-to-end lifecycle management, including launches and business continuity of our commercial small molecule and biologics portfolio.
Since joining BMS in 2000, Rao has held positions of increasing responsibility and gained broad experience in drug discovery enablement through development & registration, CMC strategy, technology development & transfer, as well as leading organizations and enterprise-wide teams. Rao served on Industrial Expert Leadership committees at USP & IQ. Rao has a wide-ranging list of professional service contributions, awards and recognitions, keynote lectures, publications, book chapters, patents, and applications.
A strong proponent of the BMS value of inclusion, and in keeping with his vision of an organization where everyone belongs, Rao also serves on the BMS Global Inclusion & Diversity council.
Rao earned his B. Tech. from Osmania University, India; M.S. in Chemical Engineering, M.S. & Ph.D. (honors) in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from The University of Kansas; and Executive MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management.
