Alton Johnson leads commercial pharmaceutical operations at Exelixis, Inc. Alton’s career spans over three decades of pharmaceutical leadership in product & process development, technology transfer, clinical supplies, manufacturing science and technology, quality assurance, compliance, and global business process development. The scope of his responsibilities includes drug substance, analytical, drug product, and equipment engineering across small molecules, biologicals, and vaccines. He led business process development for digital transformation, technology & innovation, process condition monitoring, continuous processing, knowledge management, risk management, Quality by Design, technical issues resolution, and technology transfer. Alton led a committees on Quality by Design and Risk Management at PhRMA, served as a board member of the Smart Manufacturing Leadership Coalition, and chaired the Steering Committee for the NIH-industry sponsored Engineering Research Center for Structured Organic Particulate Systems.
Alton received a Ph.D. degree in Industrial & Physical Pharmacy from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, and a B.S. degree in Pharmacy from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
