Carlos joined Rakuten Medical Inc. in February 2017 as the Chief Technical Officer responsible for all aspects of process development, technology transfers, internal protein engineering and production, clinical GMP manufacture, commercial manufacture and clinical and commercial supply chain.
Carlos Garcia received his B.S. from California State University, Fullerton. He received his M.S. and did his post graduate work in protein structure biology at University of California, Irvine. He worked as a research scientist in the protein biochemistry and crystallography group at Cytokinetics (South San Francisco, CA), where he crystallized and solved protein structures in support of the oncology programs. He transitioned into Process Development and CMC at Rinat Neuroscience which was acquired by Pfizer (South San Francisco, CA), where he was the technical lead for the process development (PD) and tech-transfer purification group. He then joined Arresto Biosciences (Palo Alto, CA), where he was leading the CMC team and led the development and manufactured of the internal biological programs. Gilead Sciences (Foster City, CA), acquired Arresto Biosciences, where he became the CMC lead for Gilead Sciences’ lead biologic program, Simtuzumab (GS-6624). In addition, Carlos lead the Gilead Technical Operations department that was responsible for technology transfers, pilot plant operations, and MSAT manufacture function. Carlos has publications in the areas of Cytochrome P450s, Growth Factors, and Lysyl Oxidases (LOX/L). In addition, he has authored patents on LOX and LOXL2.
